Summary

InGear features chapters about the Peace Corps life of a 60+ male in Azerbaijan and then Liberia. Living in an 8 by 10 room. Thawing snow to wash clothes and underarms. Hiking above the clouds in the Caucasus Mountains. Eating Turkish, Azeri, Kazakhstani and Gurjistani food.

The book also contains raw journals of daily Peace Corps life and reactions to culture and volunteer work. I didn't edit out my early wrong opinions and early and late prejudices. You’ll read about the ups and downs of homesickness, new adventures, diarrhea, strangers becoming friends and train rides with chickens.

Another section includes chapters about travel to Thailand,Costa Rica, Haiti and other countries. Most illustrate humorous adventures concerning eating rats and bugs, meeting ‘Tomato Gravy’ on the Appalachian Trail, almost getting struck by lightning, fights with monkeys, and how to avoid fire ants.

The section called “Things Run Together” provides a humorous look at life in the Midwest. Chapters include stories about my “pyromaniac”father, hypnotizing chickens, avoiding depilatories, embarrassing moments teaching, and unfortunate pain caused by horses.
